Content Writing & Rewriting From Customer’s Perspective

When you write content for your website, emails, social media or anywhere on the web you should write and then rewrite making sure you are doing this from your customer’s perspective. Tell them what is in it for them, in other words give them the benefits not just the features.

L.L. Bean does a great job of this. On one of their Winter catalogs there was a cover photo of a coat with snow falling in the background that had a simple caption “Warmth!” When you are looking to buy a Winter coat what you are looking for, as a customer, is warmth and not just features. Inside the catalog they explained the features that provide you with warmth. This is how they described the coat, “This coat keeps you toasty warm with 100% polyester fleece lining and internal fleece cuffs that help keep the cold out”!

When describing your products/services make sure you are telling them how it saves them money, saves time or makes their job easier. Keep a customer-centric mentality as you write and rewrite your content. Remember you want to tell them what is in it for them!
