Whether you are looking to nurture prospects, generate new leads or market to existing customers you should segment your lists and create unique messaging for each segment. You want to separate your audience into different buckets so you can send them relevant content that will resonate with them and align more closely with their interests.

The more information you can collect about your email recipients, the more precisely you can segment your list and tailor your emails to resonate with that audience. Here are some ways to segment your lists: demographics, industry, company size, job function, gender, age, level of engagement, buyer persona, past purchases and buying behavior.

If you are targeting a list segment of C-Level Executives your messaging should be about cost savings and reducing resources needed to accomplish their corporate initiatives. In other words, you want to point out the benefits that your product/service provides that will save them money and/or resources and help them achieve their goals.

If you are targeting a list segment of Management-Level Executives your messaging should be about how you can alleviate the pain issues they are experiencing. You want to demonstrate how your product/service solves a problem that they have. If you have not already collected information about their specific pain issues then give them examples of how you have resolved problems or issues for some of your current Customers.

The Secret Sauce to Marketing is getting the right message, to the right person, at the right time!
